Victorian era overview

Victorian era overview- important changes she made to Britain.

1837-1901

Up until recently, Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch of all time, and during this time, she managed to do so much for our country. Britain built a huge empire during the victorian era, which is what makes it such a famous era. The industrial revolution meant that most people went from living and working on the land, to working in towns and cities in big factories. This quickly made Britain the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world. Because of all these new job opportunities, Britains population went from 16 to 37 million, which resulted in new towns and homes being built. Due to all of these changes, the police force was formed.

Travel was made a lot easier, too. Railways were invented to move food and other goods. During Victoria’s reign, railways became a form of public transport, too. As a result, ‘sea-side’ holidays became popular for the first time! All in all, Queen Victoria created an empire which held so many opportunities for the people of Britain.
